Your Friday Salsa Soundtrack

Springtime is here and so is my desire to go salsa dancing as much as possible. Some of my fondest memories are of dancing under the sky during muggy nights, staying up too late, and suffering the next day at work. So although my salsa schedule is not what it used to be, I still love to go, even for just one set.

In honor of the commencement of salsa season, here are some classic tracks to start your weekend off right!

Celia Cruz and the Fania All Stars performing “Quimbara” How can anyone resist that outfit and those hair extensions?

Next, Tito Puente and his Orchestra performing “Catellano que Bueno Baila.” Heard this one live at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.

Can’t leave out Hector Lavoe singing “Mi Gente” Marc Anthony covered this song in his movie “El Cantante.”

I love this one and saw it performed  at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. “Pedro Navaja” by Ruben Blades.
