Hair Fashion: Richard Avedon
Just got done watching the HBO Documentary “About Face: Supermodels Then and Now.” Though the content wasn’t the greatest – the photography was amazing. Once of my favorite fashion photographers is the great Richard Avedon and since I am in dire need of a haircut, here are some “hair” shots. (My fave of Sofia Loren is above).

The Hunger Games: Fashion is definitely in its favor
Like thousands of other people, I went to see The Hunger Games last night. And despite the fact that this is a critique of, at the very least, reality tv culture, and, more probably, the unequal distribution of wealth and power, would it be bad if I just wanted to talk about the clothes? Costume designer Judianna Mokovsky, who has outfitted folks from Hogwarts to Pleasantville, provides the Hunger Games with a seamless, visual aesthetic, ranging from the theoretical, powdered wig-riches […]

Fashion and Politics – Jean Paul Gaultier at the Dallas Museum of Art
To say that I love fashion is an understatement. When museums decide to deviate from their traditional concept of art and allow the catwalk to invade their marble halls I am always delighted. I look forward to a display of clothes that I will never fit in, clothes I have no place to wear to, and clothes that I can never afford. Call it an adult fairy tale or simply masochism, I try to see one show per year that […]

More stuff than I could possibly buy: Spacetaker’s Winter Holiday Art Market
It’s not too late to head over to the Winter Street Holiday Art Market – open today from 11:00 – 4:00. Went there last night as part of Art Crawl Houston and it was shopping nirvana. In my challenge to buy work appropriate clothes at White House Black Market that don’t make me feel old, I forget that there are TONS of local artisans ready to create something unique to insert into my bland professional attire. From jewelry to bags, […]

I ain’t no Harajuku girl – Japan Fashion Week and the Museum Closet
My post yesterday on Haikus has put me in a Japanese state of mind. Japan Fashion week was only a few weeks ago and so I thought I would share some photos of fashion designers Gwen Stefani insists on including in her song lyrics but whose clothes you can barely find in the US. Below are pieces from the Comme des Garcon archive which will be shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo later this year. The pieces will be housed in an installation […]

Every day is Halloween in my closet! Museum of Natural Science – Spirits and Skeletons
One might say my closet is extensive. Although I am no Kim Kardashian, I would say that given the number of times I have moved as an adult and my commitment to donating clothes at least two times a year, I have amassed quite a collection of goodies. But as most people know, I have not always been good at stocking my closet with reasonable items. At least not what others consider reasonable. I do not have one matching pant […]

Nan Goldin for Jimmy Choo: Buying shoes is, indeed, like buying art
Nan Goldin, photographer of the sex-obsessed and self-destructive, has just shot a new ad campaign for none other than Jimmy Choo! Sweet Jesus — this is awesome, though I am surprised that Goldin would go so mainstream. Her works like “Ballad of Sexual Dependency” have been popular and controversial given the way she makes heroin addicts look oh-so-glamorous and the decadence of her photos almost remind me of Coleridge’s Kubla Khan and it’s opium-inspired dream (or nightmare like) quality. So what do Golding and […]

J’adore Dior! and Camile Miceli
I really do love Dior and am so glad that they are getting good press after a tough spring. One way they are managing their brand is by publicizing the designers that might have been overshadowed by the foul-mouthed Galliano. And for that, I am glad. Dior has really diversified their house and have some significant talent on their team. Their fine jewelry division is magnificent (I have gotten to try on some of the pieces at their 5th Avenue store) and […]
